Capability 01

Custom software, built for how the work actually happens.

Software written for one business, around one set of requirements — because the commercial product does not fit, does not exist, or has become the constraint rather than the solution.

This capability covers
  • Web applications
  • SaaS products
  • Business platforms
  • Portals
  • Internal systems
  • Mobile applications

Off-the-shelf software makes you work its way. Custom software works yours.

Most companies reach the point where the standard product stops helping. The process has three exceptions the vendor does not support. The workflow spans four systems that do not share data. The workaround that made it tolerable has quietly become the process, and a spreadsheet nobody owns is holding the operation together.

Custom software is the right answer when the way you work is a genuine part of how you compete, or when the cost of bending your operation to fit a product exceeds the cost of building what you actually need. It is the wrong answer when a well-supported product does the job — and we will say so.

What we build is not a prototype that impresses in a demo. It is software with tests, documentation, a deployment pipeline and the operational visibility to survive being depended on.

What you get

The kinds of software we develop.

Most engagements are one of these, or a combination of two — a platform with a portal on the front, an internal system with a mobile companion.

Web applications

Browser-based systems that a team, a customer base or an entire operation runs on, built for the load and the workflow they actually carry.

SaaS products

Multi-tenant products with the isolation, billing, onboarding and administration that being sold as a product requires — not a single-tenant app with accounts bolted on.

Business platforms

Systems that run an operation end to end: the records, the workflow, the rules, the reporting and the integrations to everything around them.

Customer & employee portals

Self-service front doors onto the systems behind them, so requests, status and documents stop travelling by email.

Internal tools & operational systems

The applications a team needs to do its job when no commercial product matches the process — scheduling, tracking, approvals, case handling, compliance.

Dashboards & mobile applications

Operational visibility for the people making decisions, and applications for the people working away from a desk.

How we approach it

Requirement first, architecture second, code third.

The expensive mistakes in custom software are made before anyone opens an editor.

Define

Establish what the business actually needs, what it must integrate with, and what success looks like in operational terms.

Architect

Decide the system boundaries, the data model, the integration points and the technology — with the reasoning written down.

Build

Engineer it in reviewable increments you can see working, with tests and deployment in place from early on rather than added at the end.

Integrate

Connect it to the systems around it so data arrives and leaves reliably instead of being re-keyed.

Evolve

Deploy, monitor and keep changing it as the business changes — without letting the architecture erode.

When this is the right fit

Signs custom software is the right call.

If more than one of these is true, this is usually where a conversation should start.

  • The commercial product covers most of the process but not the part that matters most.
  • A critical workflow currently lives in spreadsheets, shared inboxes or someone's head.
  • Your teams re-key the same data into two or three different systems.
  • The way you deliver your service is a competitive advantage that no product supports.
  • You are paying per-seat for software that only a fraction of your people can use properly.
  • An existing internal application works but nobody will touch it, and it is now blocking change.

Have a requirement no product fits?

Describe what the software would need to do and what it would need to connect to. A senior engineer will come back with a straight view on scope, approach and whether building is genuinely the right move.
